How long has Rowville Ballet Academy been operating for?

We are proudly in our 26th year and looking forward to many more years, training our talented students in all aspects of dance.

 

What classes are offered at RBA?

Rowville Ballet Academy offers classes in a variety of dance styles, including classical Cecchetti ballet, jazz, Broadway jazz, tap, hip hop, contemporary and lyrical.  Classes are suitable for children aged 4 and over.

 

Where are the classes held?

Classes are held at three venues – Rowville Uniting Church - Rowville, RSD Studios - Scoresby and St Simon's Parish Hall - Rowville.

 

My child is 3, is that too young to start?

Classes at RBA are suitable for children aged 4 and over.

Students need to be age 4 when term 1 commences.

 

My 4 year old wants to start hip hop, can she?

Hip hop has lots of movement and technique, so we require younger students to be assessed before enrolling.
We do offer a trial class first to see if your child will be suitable. A year of jazz will help prior to starting hip hop.

How much are your classes?

Class prices are paid per term, based on the length of each weekly class and worked out over the entire year.

Individual Classes

30 min - $95 per term

45 min - $135 per term

60 min - $175 per term

75 min - $210 per term

 

Limited Class Packages

Jazz & Tap package (2 x 30 min classes) – $180 per term (saves $10) – beginner / primary / junior / inter only 

Beginner/Primary 3 class package (2 x 30 min classes and 1 x 45 min class) – $305 per term (saves $20) – includes jazz / tap / ballet / hip hop

Cecchetti Ballet package (2 x 45 min classes) – $250 per term (saves $20)

 

Unlimited Class Packages

All Levels – $565 per term

 

How do I pay for classes?

You can pay by direct deposit, cash (please have exact money as sometimes we don't have change) or Paypal (for credit card payments - terminal or online payment.) or via our Dance Studio Pro Parent Portal

Are there any admin or registration fees?

At the beginning of every year, there is a $20.00 enrolment fee payable for each student enrolled at Rowville Ballet Academy. This covers the cost of music, insurances and liabilities.

 

Do you offer a trial class?

Yes, trial classes are offered.  Simply arrange to come and try any of our classes, to see if it is suitable for your child. Complete our enquiry form and let us know which classes you are interested in and we will get back to you with a day and time to trial the class.


Trials are not available for full classes. We also have a maximum number of students per class so hurry as classes do fill up quickly.

What should my child wear to class?

For classical ballet classes, students are required to wear a leotard (any colour) and ballet wrap skirt. Pink ballet tights and pink ballet shoes are also needed for these classes.  Hair should always be worn in a neat ballet bun.

 

For all other classes, suitable dance clothing is to be worn, including appropriate footwear.  Black jazz shoes and tan tap shoes are required for jazz/tap classes for the younger students or black lace-up tap shoes for the seniors. 

Can we still join your classes after the term has started?

Yes, but only during the first two terms if there are still spaces available as we have maximum class numbers.  Following this, concert routines are being taught from late term 2 / term 3 and we then expect full commitment, from all students, through to end of year concert.
The first two terms, students learn dance techniques which are extremely important.

 

Can parents watch?

Parents are welcome to watch limited classes during Term 1 for the first few weeks for the trial class and another week.  From the beginning of Term 2, through to the concert in Term 4, there are allocated classes, usually once a month, that parents/carers are able to watch.  A notice is given to parents, detailing which classes are open to watch.
We limit parent watching due to distractions, noises, siblings etc for the class.

Is there an annual concert?

Yes.  Our annual concert/s are held in November each year.

All students are to attend.
(2022 date is still to be confirmed.)

 

Do we have to make costumes?

There is no need to make any costumes!  All costumes are hired and parents are charged a small fee, per costume, to cover hire costs, alterations and cleaning.

 

Can my child participate in exams?

Ballet exams, following the Cecchetti syllabus, are offered yearly to selected students. Two ballet classes are to be taken to attend exams and the ballet teacher will decide when the student is ready to take the exam.

 

How are classes structured?

Children are placed in classes primarily based on ability.  However, age is always taken into consideration when deciding the most appropriate class.  The class composition may vary from year to year, dependent on the development and progression of students’ skill levels.

 

Is there an opportunity to do competitions?

Performance at competitions is by invitation only.  Selected students and groups may have the opportunity to perform at various competitions during the year.  The main focus for students performing in competitions is to increase their confidence and gain valuable stage experience. 

 

Do I pay weekly?

Fees are structured on a per term basis, not a weekly fee.  Term fees are due to be paid by the second week of each term.  Invoices are emailed to parents with the due date.
If fees are not paid by the end of these two weeks, then a reminder emails will be given and if not paid at the end of that week, then a $20 late fee is added to your term invoice and if still not paid, the student/s will not be allowed to dance until the fees are paid in full. They can come and watch the class but no dancing is permitted.

 

Does my child have to perform in the concert?

It is anticipated that all students at RBA will participate in the end of year concert.  Once concert routines are being taught, we do expect students to remain committed until the concert. 

If students left during term 3 and 4, the concert choreography is set and students are learning it, it causes confusion as the dance needs to be changed to accommodate. The younger students get very confused.

 

What classes should my child take?

This will depend on each individual child and what interests them.  However, it is highly recommended that students include a classical ballet class in their choice, as classical ballet develops the technical skills that will assist them in every facet of dance.  Most beginner students do ballet, jazz and tap classes.

 

Where do I buy uniform items?

There are multiple options for buying dancewear and dance shoes, including Bloch and Energetiks stores.  Locally, dancewear can be purchased from ABC Costume/Knox Dancewear (Wantirna), Dance Art (Croydon) and Frock up (Mountain Gate). 

Do your teachers and staff have Working with Children Cards?

Yes, all our teachers and admin staff have valid WWC cards. Our junior teachers and student helpers (under 18 years) aren't required to have a card.

All parent helpers during our concert time (photo day, concert day, rehearsals etc.) are to all have a valid WWC card and these are sighted by admin prior to assisting students on these days.
